Going Green at Boubou Bed & Breakfast

Going Green at Boubou Bed & Breakfast

Small changes, a greener future.

At Boubou Bed & Breakfast, we believe that caring for our beautiful natural surroundings is just as important as providing our guests with a comfortable and memorable stay.

Nestled in the peaceful surroundings of the Magaliesberg Biosphere near Rustenburg, we are fortunate to be surrounded by nature and abundant birdlife. We recognise our responsibility to help protect this environment for future generations.

As part of our commitment to responsible tourism, we are embracing a simple but meaningful approach: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Making Better Use of Energy

One of our key priorities is reducing unnecessary electricity consumption while maintaining the comfort our guests have come to expect.

We have introduced several energy-saving measures throughout the property, including:

  • Solar power: We have installed 16 solar panels to make better use of renewable energy.
  • Energy-efficient air conditioning: We are replacing older air-conditioning units with more energy-efficient models.
  • LED lighting: We are transitioning to LED lights to help reduce electricity consumption.
  • Smarter electricity usage: Where possible, we operate energy-intensive equipment during daylight hours.
  • Gas cooking and solar water heating: We have switched to gas stoves and solar geysers to reduce our reliance on conventional electricity.

We also encourage our guests to support these efforts by switching off lights and air conditioners when they are not needed.

These practical changes are helping us work towards a more energy-conscious and sustainable guest experience.

Every Drop Counts: Conserving Water

Water is a precious resource, particularly in our South African climate.

To manage our water usage more responsibly, we have introduced systems to harvest rainwater and reuse suitable greywater in our gardens.

We also invite guests to join our water-saving efforts by reusing towels and bed linen where practical, helping us reduce unnecessary washing and water consumption.

By making small adjustments to our daily routines, we can all play a part in protecting this valuable resource.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Sustainability extends beyond saving electricity and water. It also means being more mindful of the waste we produce.

At Boubou, we separate organic and non-organic household waste as part of our recycling and waste-management practices.

Green kitchen waste is composted and returned to the garden, helping us reduce waste while enriching the soil naturally.

It’s a simple approach that supports a healthier environment and makes good use of resources that might otherwise go to waste.

From Our Garden to Your Plate

One of the things we take particular pride in is our seasonal organic vegetable garden.

We grow fresh produce that can be incorporated into the meals we prepare for our guests, bringing a little of our garden directly to the table.

There’s something special about enjoying freshly harvested ingredients, knowing they have been grown with care right here at Boubou.

Our vegetable garden is another way we embrace a more thoughtful, sustainable approach to hospitality.

A Greener Stay Starts with All of Us

We know that becoming more environmentally responsible is an ongoing journey, and there is always room to improve.

By investing in renewable energy, conserving water, reducing waste and growing some of our own produce, we are taking meaningful steps towards a greener future.

We are also grateful to our guests who support these efforts through simple everyday choices during their stay.

Together, small actions can make a lasting difference.

We look forward to welcoming you to Boubou Bed & Breakfast, where warm hospitality, peaceful bushveld surroundings and a growing commitment to sustainability come together.

Not merely a stop-over, but a destination.
